WW1 Royal Flying Corps pilot's watch. |

A Swiss made 8 day watch by Octava Watch Co issued to pilots in the Royal Flying Corps during the first world war. The case has snap-on front & rear covers & a hinged inner rear cover, all close firmly & evenly. The rear cover has the RFC aviation mark. There is some wear to the plating on the rear cover. The dial is excellent with no chips or cracks. The glass has a few minor scratches. The movement is marked OCTAVA WATCH Co SWITZERLAND 15 FIFTEEN JEWELS 3 ADJUSTMENTS U.S.A.P. 816321. It is running well & keeping good time. These watches were placed in a holder in the cockpit when flying, they were very expensive, if the aeroplane was crashed & the pilot survived, he was expected to rescue the watch & take it back with him. A very rare piece of WW1 history.
