A rare and delightful hinged real walnut - often referred to as Spanish - with a silk lined top, plated mounts and scrollwork engraved stippled cover. The cover holds two miniature cut glass ruby scent bottles with glass plug stoppers and French hallmarked and embossed silver tops, as well as a small silver funnel. Circa 1840, possibly earlier; as mentioned, the silver is hallmarked on the top and collar with French boar's head marks, plus additional makers stamp. Bottles 1 1/8th in/2.9cm high, walnut approximately 1 5/8th in/4.1cm high, 1¾in/4.4cm long, 1½in/3.8cm wide. - if you have any questions about this item, contact me.
