This is a rare and valuable item indeed. The Makers' mark is for 'JTH' and 'JHM', namely John Heath and John Middleton of the firm Hukin and Heath, with whom Dr Christoper Dresser worked for a period. This pepper pot is modelled on a toadstool, and it is made in a hammered silver design of precision and originality. The head of the toadstool unscrews to allow for filling, but this reveals the enormous care taken - the underside of the head shows the ribbed divisions which are present on a real fungus, Although the divisions are narrow, two Hallmarks have been slipped almost humourously in - the Lion Passant signifying Sterling Silver, and also a mark which is very similar to a letter 'T'' but which may simply be the numeral '1'. The stalk is separately Hallmarked for Sterling Silver,' the same Makers and also with the Leopard's Head signifying Assay in London. The mark which is like a letter 'T' (or a numeral '1') is also there - as are some scratchweight markings but also the attractive additional London details of 'A Barrett & Sons, 63 & 64 Piccadilly'. A superb, fun piece - scarce and valuable.
 Condition: Excellent
Dimensions: Just under 7cm tall; base diameter is over 3cm; top diameter just under 5cm at the widest. Weight: Approximately 50 grams - unfilled
