Antique 19thc Sterling Silver Purse for Stamps or Pills |

| Dateline: Mid 19th Century |
Item# 31987 |

The perfect love token or small Christmas stocking gift: this is an enchanting 19thC solid silver purse with its own silver chain, most probably intended for keeping stamps (the first adhesive postage stamp was introduced into England by Rowland Hill in 1837) or pills. This delightful piece of silver is beautifully crafted, shaped to portray the ruching of the fabric and with a fully functioning clasp and hinge.
Hallmarked at the base of the bag by the hinge for import into England, the marks are extremely tiny but show the date letter for 1840 marking at the Sheffield assay office, with the confirmation of 925 sterling silver standard. Also the original stamped 925 inside the bag by the fastener.
 Condition: Excellent
Dimensions: 1.8" high to top of handle, excluding chain
