A decorative chased lorgnette with spring loaded opening. The pattern of the chasing is entwined leaves and a flower with a small empty cartouche for initials on the back surrounded by a plain edged border. The case looks original and indicates the maker's name of Negretti and Zamba, 1850 to 1935; makers of optical instruments and barometers to Royalty and the Navy among others. There are several maker's marks but they are minute and rubbed to the extent that it is difficult to be absolutely certain about the date. The mechanics and style would suggest early 20th rather than 19C. It has been tested and it is made of rolled gold.
