ENGRAVED & CUT GLASS CLARET JUG w/ ORNATE PLATED SPHINX MOUNT |

A striking club shape crystal claret jug on a short round base, the upper section engraved with grape bunches, leaves and tendrils, the lower section cut with saw tooth stripes, wide blades and a rhomboid star band; the base is embellished with a radial burst. The jug has an elaborate silver plated foliate and patterned mount in the Egyptian revival manner, featuring a relief design finial, mask head spout, and ornate handle that includes a sphinx, curled snake, circular sun or star motif, and inset style elements. Circa 1890, apparently not marked.

Dimensions: 11¾in/29.8cm high including finial.
