GREAT EXHIBITION "ROYAL COLLECTION" Falcon Games UK
|
Dateline: Circa 1985 |
Item# 34428 |
Puzzle shows the inauguration of The Great Exhibition in 1851. This is the original Crystal Palace Building, with the huge living tree centre piece. In the mid-centre is Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. This was the wonder of the age. The first building constructed with cast-iron pre-fabricated sections designed to be dismantled and removed from the site at the completion of the Exhibition. It was indeed removed and re-erected on the outskirts of London and continued to serve as an exhibition centre with beautifully laid out grounds, indeed a pleasure palace for the masses. Its sad end came when it was destroyed by fire which probably started in the boiler house which had been built separately. The fire spread very quickly because of the accumulation of dust under the wooden floors, which had become very dry over the years. A tragic end to such an outstanding example of British ingenuity and engineering talent. Six million people made the journey to see the wonders of the age. Painted by David Roberts and commissioned by Queen Victoria for Prince Albert, it is the major portion of the painting in the Queen's Collection. 1500 pieces.
Condition: Very Good. Very good sound box with minor edge wear.
Dimensions: 86 x 60.2 cm
