This is a highly attractive and unusual lidded glass urn, probably dating to about 1880.
The body is of ovoid form on a stepped pedestal. The shoulder is also stepped and there is a short neck below a galleried rim. The lid has a lower stepped portion that fits within the rim. Above this is a flattened portion that sweeps upwards to a pair of discoid rings below the decorative knop. This has a central ring of white enamel dots. This design is repeated on the lid and around the centre of the pedestal.
The front of the urn is decorated with a complex floral design featuring a pair of birds. Detail is picked out in gold, but very little of this remains.
It has a maximum height (including the lid) of approximately 43.0cm and a height excluding the lid of about 28.7cm.
Condition: Excellent. It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although as previously mentioned the gilding is very rubbed.
