Murano Sommerso Pheasant with Gold Inclusions
|
Dateline: Circa 1960s |
Item# 35046 |
This is a stunning stylised pheasant in three colours of glass – red, green-blue and flint – with encased bubbles. It probably dates to about the 1960s.
The clear glass exterior casing can be pulled into extended shapes, creating interesting and complex optical effects.
The head and neck of the pheasant are formed of a central red glass ‘core’, overlaid with tiny gold inclusions, and encased in flint glass. The latter has been used to form details, such as the comb, eyes, beak and feathers. The red core merges with the central green-blue portion of the body, which is again overlaid with gold. This is surrounded by a layer of flint glass, with encased bubbles. The tail has been formed separately and fused with the body. This also has a central part consisting of red merged with green-blue glass, and speckled with gold. The flint glass layer that surrounds this has been manipulated to give the appearance of long tail feathers and also has enclosed bubbles.
The feet are continuous with the base. Both are formed of flint glass with gold inclusions. The base has a spiral-ribbed effect.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
Condition: Perfect.
Dimensions: The maximum height of this piece to the tip of the tail is approximately 33.0cm.
