Silverplated Claret Jug
|
| Dateline: Late 19th Century |
Item# 31613 |
This claret jug is in the classic style. The glass is cut in a graduated, open hobnail pattern and a starburst cut into the base. The silver plate round the neck and lid are plain with an unusual heart shaped thumb stop on the lid. The angular handle style predates the much later art nouveau. Marks are very clear and it was made by John Sherwood & Sons in their Birmingham factory which was established in 1858. The capital A was used as a quality stamp.
