Dutch Dog-Nose Serving Spoon
|
| Dateline: Circa 1800 |
Item# 32518 |
Circa 1800. This spoon has recently been identified and appraised. It is thought to be one of a larger service. A tentative suggestion as to maker if that of Hendrik Vrijman, and the spoon is also thought to bear a Rotterdam Hallmark. It has Silver Assay Mark indicating purity of silver as 0.875. The shape of the terminal gives the spoon the 'dog nose' title, but usually there are also indents to add to the likeness to a nose. Very impressive rat-tail to the reverse of the bowl. Interesting piece to collect alongside English silver.
Condition: Very Good. Very good condition. Some surface scratching and also wear to the Hallmark.
Dimensions: Approximately 19cm in length, of which about 7cm is the length of the bowl. Weight: Roughly 70 grams
Seller: Including Silver Location: United Kingdom
