Flower Encrusted Pastille Burner
|
Dateline: Circa 1840 |
Item# 34662 |
A finely modelled, porcelain, flower encrusted pastille burner in the form of a summer house, unusually finished 'in the white' and made around 1840, possibly at the Coalport factory. The air freshners of their day, these items, usually in the form of cottages, summer houses or churches were designed to burn Cassolette perfumes which consisted of finely powdered willow-wood charcoal, benzoin, fragrant oils and gum arabic. Although unmarked, this example is of good enough quality to have been produced at one of the major factories, such as Coalport.
Condition: Very Good. Only minimal chipping to one or two of the flower heads
Dimensions: 11.0cm high x 12.0cm wide
