A Rare Minton Pompeiian Cup
|
Dateline: Dated 1866 |
Item# 32490 |
A very fine two handled, porcelain cup. The main moulded body representing male and female centaurs and cupids. The porcelain tinted to suggest ivory. With two looping handles defined in a red ochre colour, highlighted with gilding. The whole raised on a small circular base. This design was first registered on 26th June 1845. It was shown at the 1849 Birmingham Exhibition. This version was produced in 1866. Coloured varients of this design were also produced, but tend to appear rather gaudy. The present piece being probably a more acurate representation of a classical Roman original. The base bears the impressed MINTON mark, the pattern number and the date code for 1866.
Condition: Excellent.
Dimensions: 13cm high x 9.0cm in diameter, excluding the handles
