A Black Basalt Cream Jug
|
Dateline: Circa 1810 |
Item# 34289 |
A cream jug made of black basalt clay, factory unknown, produced around 1810. An elegant pattern of diagonal 'chequer board' design on a piece somewhat larger than normal for a cream jug. Popularly associated with the Wedgwood factory, many other firms produced this type of ware. Indeed, Wedgwood is known to have supplied basalt clay directly to Mintons and, presumably to other factories. As is quite usual with this class of ware, the jug is unmarked, and so no attribution can be safely given.
Condition: Very Good. A minor chip to the lip of the jug only.
Dimensions: 12.8cm high x 14.3cm from handle to spout
