New Hall Porcelain Plate 'Dr Syntax Pursued by a Bull

A rare New Hall plate C1823-27 with a lobed and gilded rim, moulded to the border with flowers and fruit upon a blue glaze ground, gilded with foliage and inset with four gilt framed cartouches painted with spevcimen flowers.
The centre is painted with a scene from Thomas Rowlandson's Tours of Dr Syntax, here the inimitable figure is seeking refuge up a tree, pursued by a bull.
The reverse is painted in iron red N 2679 and inscribed in cursive script 'Dr Syntax pursued by a Bull.'
Condition: Very Good. Very good, with no damage and no restoration. The enamels and gilding are fresh and strong.
