Victorian Cameo Carved Conch Shell

A rare Victorian conch shell carved with a cameo depicting a classical period lady with her hair pinned up style and facing right. The shell was probably a grand tour souvenir dating to the early -mid 19th century. The shell has a lovely pinkish-red colour graduating to paler shades of buff and ivory and the cameo carving is quite transparent when held to the light and has intricately carved detail. The shell has been beautifully polished and it is very much in it's favour that there is no fading of the cameo and no distinct blemishes. A lovely, decorative display piece.
