Item# 31775 |
A late 19th century silver & niello watch with an inlaid gold shield (unengraved). 1,3/4” (45mm) diameter excluding the stem & bow, 2,1/2” (63mm) over all. The case is very good, with no dents, just a slight nick on the edge of the rear cover at 11 where the watch has been opened with a knife. The front cover is snap-on & the rear is hinged, both close firmly & evenly with no gaps. Inside the rear cover is the 0,800 silver mark. The inner cover is marked PARIS 1889 MEDAILLE D’OR EN COLLECTIVITE. MONTRE CYLINDRE PERFECTIONNEE. QUALITE GARANTIE. MEDAILLE D,ARGENT LILLE. This cover is also hinged & closes firmly & evenly with no gaps & has the 0,800 silver mark. The movement is unsigned, it is running well & keeping good time. The dial is signed Vigilant & it is almost perfect, with just a very faint hairline from the centre of the sub-seconds dial to the 20 seconds mark (you have to look very hard to see it). This is a very nice looking enamel dial, with additional 24 hour numerals in red outside of a ring of gold coloured dots.
