Wow, what an interesting piece this is: full of history and character!
This antique and very early silver cloak fastener dated 1604 is from the Stuart period and was converted to a brooch in the Georgian period.
Handmade and enscribed "E.ELCK/HAIT/IES Do/1604", it would originally have adorned the cloak of a Tudor/Stuart gentleman.
